HYDERABAD: Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu has succeeded in highlighting the plight of Andhra Pradesh farmers in Delhi. Leaders of various political parties, including the CPM, CPI, INLD and others, attended the round table conference organised by the Telugu Desam Party in Delhi on Monday on farmers' problems.Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Naidu said he would further intensify his struggle for the cause of farmers. The TDP has decided to move a notrust motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government for its 'failure' on all fronts."Farmers are not getting remunerative price for their produce. A huge quantity of paddy is lying unsold with farmers. The state government failed to purchase unsold paddy from farmers at a support price. Lack of support price, black marketing of farm inputs and increase in cultivation costs forced paddy farmers of Konaseema and other areas to declare a crop holiday in kharif. Lakhs of acres of land was left fallow," he said.Naidu said he was undertaking Rythu Porubata in the state for the cause of farmers. About 1,700 debtridden farmers committed suicide in AP during the Congress regime, he said.Meanwhile, Naidu has been appointed convener of the coordination committee between farmers' associations and political parties. The TDP chief demanded a special session of Parliament to discuss the problems of farmers in the country. He also urged the Central Government to present a separate budget for agriculture on the lines of railway budget. The report of MS Swaminathan Commission should be implemented in toto for the welfare of farmers. "My aim is to make agriculture profitable," he said.On the Telangana issue, Naidu said it was up to the Congressled UPA Government to take a decision. He said the welfare of Telugu people in both Telangana and Andhra regions was important for him. The TDP chief said he was neutral on the Telangana statehood demand.
