New Delhi: Nokia has announced a device that converts your mobile phone into a portable television. The Nokia Mobile TV Headset acts as a TV receiver for your mobile device.
The device works using Digital Video Broadcasting - Handheld (DVB-H) signals and is compatible with the upcoming Nokia N8 and other Symbian^3 devices with USB-on-the-go feature.
The headset comes with buttons to switch channels and volume controls. It is also able to handle call-related functions available in regular mobile phone headsets.
DVB-H is also said to be less battery-hogging than Web TV solutions. Nokia also has a Mobile TV app available for compatible handsets.
While the mobile TV headset sounds promising, the limited availability of DVB-H can be a roadblock. According to Nokia DVB-H service are available in Netherlands, Russia, New Delhi and Helsinki.
Expected to launch in late 2010, the Nokia Mobile TV headset will be priced around € 40 (Rs 2,368).
