Over 2,000 flood victims evacuated in Krishna

VIJAYAWADA: Owing to heavy inflows into Krishna river, people in the low-lying areas along the river bed have been shifted to safer places by the district administration.As many as 2,071 people have been evacuated and sheltered at municipal schools where the rehabilitation centres were set up.Residents of Krishnalanka, Ranigarithota, Balajinagar, Ramalingeswara Nagar and Bhavanipuram have been evacuated.As many as 979 houses in the low-lying areas were under water.Officials shifted nearly 300 families from Challa Rao street of Ramalingeswara Nagar to safer places.Municipal officials were monitoring the flood situation round-the-clock.Barricades were erected on the banks to prevent people from going into the river.Officials said flood water levels were receding gradually and water discharge at Prakasam barrage stood at 4.22 lakh cusecs on Saturday evening.
