SAMBALPUR: Paddy procurement in the district would begin on November 21. This was decided at a meeting held under the chairmanship of District Collector Mrinalini Darswal on Thursday. It was decided that procurement would be done through 23 market yards and purchase centres of the regulated market committee (RMCs) in the district. This apart, 43 Primary Agriculture Co-operative Societies (PACS) have been identified to participate in the procurement besides SHGs and pani panchayats.The Collector said Orissa State Civil Supplies Corporation, NAFED, MARKFED and Food Corporation of India would also procure paddy and offer ` 1,080 per quintal for paddy of common variety. Farmers selling Grade A quality of paddy would get ` 1,110 a quintal.The farmers would have to produce Farmers Identity Cards (FICs) to sell their produce. Each farmer can sell up to 25 bags of paddy in irrigated belt and in non-irrigated areas, a farmer can sell 12 bags.
