Christians in Pakistan rallied in Islamabad and Karachi demanding a global ban on The Da Vinci Code.

Islamabad: On Wednesday, hundreds of people from Pakistan's small Christian community staged protests in two cities against The Da Vinci Code, demanding a global ban on the movie because they said it hurt the feelings of Christians.

About 500 Christians, many of them school children, rallied in Islamabad. Many of them chanted "Long live Jesus."

More than 200 others, some carrying a large cross, protested in the southern city of Karachi. "This film should be banned in the entire world," said Michael Javed, a former lawmaker, who led the demonstration in front of the Karachi press club.

"Our religious feelings have been hurt," he said amid chants of "Death to Hollywood."

The film version of Dan Brown's murder mystery novel is based around the premise that Jesus Christ and one of his followers, Mary Magdalene, had children whose descendants are still alive.

The movie is not on general release in Pakistan's cash-strapped cinemas, which show few newly released Hollywood films. It is available, however, on bootleg DVD.
