Srinagar: The People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Congress seem to have papered over the cracks, resolving the crisis in their coalition government.
On Thursday night, the PDP removed Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beig as the leader of its legislature party and recalled him from the council of ministers.
The Congress and the National Conference do not want to interfere in what they call internal politics of the PDP. "It’s an internal matter of the PDP and we have no wish to interfere. We will abide by what they say," said Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, too, indicated that his party would stay away from the matter. "We have to think about this. We have had truck with the Congress earlier and we burnt our fingers," said Abdullah.
The PDP’s reason for removing Beig from the Cabinet is that he was defying party rules, but the real reason is believed to be his proximity to Chief Minister and Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad.
The PDP’s relationship with the Congress is under strain because it believes Azad wants to clip its wings in state politics.
