Petrova dumps Sania out of Wimbledon
Sania's Wimbledon campaign was ended in straight sets by Russia.

New Delhi: Sania Mirza bowed out of Wimbledon on Thursday as she was beaten by Nadia Petrova of Russia in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 in the second round on Thursday.

The 20-year-old Indian went down tamely without causing any problems for the 11th seed. There were moments of brilliance from Mirza but the Russian stayed ahead of her throughout the one hour three minute-long match.

With this win, Petrova avenged her loss to Sania at San Diego two years ago.

"I felt like I was on the defensive all the time, because everytime I went for an attack, I won the point. But I felt that I was always three feet behind the baseline when I should have been on the baseline, and she got me moving better than I got her moving," Sania said after her exit from the singles.

Meanwhile, India's Leander Paes and his Czech Republic partner Martin Damm defeated Chris Haggard of South Africa and Marcin Matkowski of Poland in a stiff encounter to advance to the Wimbledon men's doubles second round.

The fifth seeded Indo-Czech pair edged past Haggard and Matkowski 7-6 (4) 6-3 7-5.

In the second round, Paes and Damm will play the winners of the match between James Auckland of England and Australian Stephen Huss and Ilia Bozoljac of Serbia and Czech Republic's Dick Norman.
