PARADIP: Around 150 trees were felled at Nuagaon on Saturday following resumption of ancillary work for the Posco project. It is a week since villagers had stalled work to protest the arrest of two villagers and police lathicharge on six women staging a demonstration against the project. On the other hand, members of Badgaipai forest committee refused to cooperate with the district administration, demanding hike in compensation for the prawn gheries to Rs. 75 lakh. The district administration paid the Dandabhiman forest committee members Rs. 60 lakh as compensation for the prawn gheries in a bid to win their favour and expedite the ancillary works while the actual compensation was Rs. 55 lakh, alleged members of Badgaipai committee.Eight members of the committee demanded immediate disbursal of outstanding compensation for the betel vines destroyed for the project. The deadlock was broken after a meeting between Badgaipai committee members and the district administration officials.
