THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A joint raid was conducted by the Civil Supplies Department and the Legal Metrology Dept on 26 hotels and bakeries at Ulloor and Medical College areas on Friday. 11 cases were registered by the Civil Supplies Department and four by the Legal Metrology Department, said Taluk Supply Officer Kariyam Vijayakumar.The inspecting team found several hotels not displaying the mandatory price list. A prominent vegetarian restaurant near the Medical College Hospital was found charging exorbitant prices. The hotel owner who charged Rs 45 for a masala dosai and Rs 10 for tea made some defamatory remarks to the inspecting team which he later withdrew following the protest raised by locals and customers. Another hotel from where rotten vegetables and ajinomoto were found was warned by the officials.    The raids were a follow-up of Monday’s meeting between the District Collector and the Hotels and Restaurants Association in the wake of the Sabarimala pilgrimage season. The meeting had decided maximum prices for various foods including vegetarian meals (`25), tea, snacks (`6)), masala dosai (` 25) and dosa (`8). Taluk Supply Officer Kariyam Vijayakumar, City Rationing Officer (South) K Vijayan, City Rationing Officer (North) C S Sreekumar, Legal Metrology Department Assistant Controller Nelson Raj, Corporation Food Inspectors Jayakumar and John Vijayakumar led the raid.
