Remembering the Mahatma
Though the Mahatma's relevance is often questioned, there were many for whom he continues to be an inspiration.

New Delhi: President APJ Abdul Kalam led the nation in paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 58th death anniversary on Monady.

Also paying homage at his memorial, in Rajghat, in New Delhi were Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Vice President Bhairon Singh Sekhawat, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the three service chiefs.

The Father of the Nation fell to Nathu Ram Godse's bullets on January 30 in 1948, and his death anniversary is observed as Martyrs' Day.

Though the Mahatma's relevance is often questioned in modern day India but there were many for whom the father of the nation continues to be an inspiration.

At Rajghat scores of people participated in the all-religion prayer to remember the man who preached non-violence and dreamed of a classless, caste-less India where people of all religions lived in harmony.
