CHENNAI: Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Thursday described the resignation of Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran as “long overdue” and that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should have made him quit long ago.“This is something long overdue. The Prime Minister should have made him resign long ago,” Jayalalithaa, who has been demanding Maran’s resignation over the 2G scam, told mediapersons here. When a scribe asked whether Maran’s resignation could be termed the “end of the DMK”, Jayalalithaa said. “The end of the DMK had already been decided by the people,” apparently referring to the DMK’s defeat in April 13 Assembly elections.Asked if her government would pursue complaints against Maran brothers and their close associate and Sun Pictures Chief Operating Officer Hansraj Saxena, Jayalalithaa said, “Most certainly.” Police would look into whatever complaints received against them, she added.
