Under the guidance of the Indian Army, the establishment has undergone major enhancements, elevating its offerings and services.

In a significant upgrade, the Kibithu Bakery, located in India’s easternmost village, has now been transformed into the country’s easternmost bakery and café. Under the guidance of the Indian Army, the establishment has undergone major enhancements, elevating its offerings and services. Situated near the Line of Actual Control between India and China, the revamped café promises an improved experience for visitors.

Established by the Indian Army in 2022, the bakery and café, situated in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district, is currently managed by women of the village who oversee food production and sales. It used to offer bakery items like biscuits, pancakes, buns, sweet rolls, etc. However, it now has many more options.

According to officials, the upgrade was executed between January and March 2024, with approximately Rs 30 lakh utilised for the project. It was planned in such a way that tourists coming here can enjoy both comfort and taste.

The upgraded café now has seating facilities. The space has been extended, and new ovens, crockery, and interiors have been added. In addition to bakery items, the café now offers packaged items to meet the demand of visitors.

“The café has witnessed a surge in tourists since last year. With this upgrade, we are expecting a boost in sales that will directly benefit the women employees working for the café. It caters to a population of 700 people, and more than 2,000 visitors have visited the café since the upgrade,” said an Army official aware of the development. He added, “In addition to the employment of four women, 14 other women have also been trained for the future.”

It is noteworthy that under the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP), Kibithu recently received new roads, a medical facility, a sports complex, and a mobile tower. There has been a focus on connectivity and infrastructure building in border villages, and Kibithu is a classic example of that.
