CHENNAI: Robbery gangs and chain snatchers had a field day, as weekend revellers thronged the two beaches in Marina and Besant Nagar on Sunday.According to sources, Suman Bose and his wife Sakshi, who had come down from West Bengal to the city on a sight-seeing trip, were staying at a lodge in Triplicane. On Sunday evening, the couple were seated on the sands at Marina, when a three-member gang snatched their bag at knifepoint. The bag contained `3,000 in cash, a cell phone and credit cards. In the second incident, Thiruvengadam (22) of Theerthavarayan Street, was accosted by a man posing as a beggar. He reportedly demanded `10 and when the youth objected to his tone, the ‘beggar’ called two others, who proceeded to rob him of his gold chain. Marina police are investigating.In Besant Nagar, Ranjit Kumar (19), a B Com student and resident of Kothandaram Street in Washermenpet was seated with a friend on the beach, when two men robbed them of an eight-sovereign gold chain, a ring, bracelet and `3,000 in cash.H Vinitha (30) of Vettuvankeni in Neelangarai was returning from church, when two men on a bike stopped near her on the pretext of asking for directions for an address. Bike rider skids, dies of injuriesA 20-year old man was killed, when he skidded and fell from his two-wheeler, on East Coast Road on Monday.Raja, a resident of Pillayar Koil Street in Injambakkam, used to run a saloon at Thriuvallur Nagar in Thiruvanmiyur. On Monday morning, he dropped his mother-in-law at the bus stand in Thiruvanmiyur and was returning home when a dog ran across the road. He swerved to avoid hitting the animal, skidded and sustained head injuries that proved to be fatal.
