Ronit Roy has been approached for an international project but he preferred to remain mum on the details. “Yes, I have been offered a Hollywood project. But, it would not be right to reveal the details as the makers are still making some changes in the script.”
Ronit is the biggest star on television and the actor is excited about his latest release Udaan directed by Vikramaditya Motwane releasing tomorrow. He plays a role of an authoritarian father, but the actor confesses that in real life, he is very lenient with his kids. “In the film, I am very strict but in real life, I am very lenient with my kids. I can never dominate their lives.”
The film was India’s only official entry to Cannes Film Festival this year and the actor also walked the red carpet and attended the screening.” It was such a great feeling for someone like me. It was phenomenal. I can never forget the standing ovation we got after the film. It was like mini Oscars to me.”
Vikramaditya was ready with this script at a time when a subject like this was difficult to get a nod. When asked if the release of Udaan is a good sign for small films, the actor explains, “There was always a space for good cinema and it’s commendable that Vikramaditya had nurtured the script for so many years. Films like Chashme Buddoor and the kind of films Mahesh Bhatt made, they were rich in content and that’s why it always found its space. I have been hearing about big corporates losing a lot of money on big star casts. But, if people like this film, then definitely the small films will get more encouragement, provided it has great content.”
Initially, Ronit Roy was supposed to play Ram Kapoor’s character, Jimmy, in the film and it was a last minute decision by the director to give Ronit the role of the father. “I prepared my self to play this character called Jimmy which now Ram Kapoor is playing. I was later given the role of Bhairav, so everything changed. I played the role of an elder brother so I thought of how Rohit( Ronit’s younger brother) and I share a bond as brothers. So, that understanding helped me to develop layers in the characters between Bhairav and Jimmy.
When asked if he had to work on his dialect as the location used in the film is Jamshedpur, he says, “Yes, I had to undergo training for a week so that I could get the language right. Also, I have a certain image on TV and I had to break that so that the audience can accept me. I am very glad the way the film has shaped up.”
