HYDERABAD: Members, across party lines, created a ruckus in Assembly on Monday over drinking water shortage in Greater Hyderabad and peripheral areas. Members of the Majilis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Lok Satta Party and Congress MLA Damodar Reddy during the Question Hour cornered the State Government for its failure to supply drinking water. Minister for municipal administration and urban development (MAUD) M Maheedhar Reddy admitted that there is a scarcity of water in Greater Hyderabad limits and that the government is taking measures to solve the water issue and mitigate the problems of the people during the ensuing summer.But, the angry members, Akbaruddin Owaisi, Virasat Rasool Khan, Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala, Muddu Krishnamma Naidu, Jaiprakash Narayan and others, were not satisfied with the reply given by the minister forcing chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to intervene. The CM said that water supply was its main priority and the govt was ready spend any amount on it.Speaker N Manohar directed the minister to hold a meet with all MLAs from Hyderabad to discuss the water problems in Hyderabad, encroachments of lakes and other issues on March 13. Chief minister assured the House that the important decisions to be taken in tomorrow's meeting would be implemented as funds are not the problem. He assured that Phase-III of Krishna drinking water supply costing `1,670 cr, would be completed by 2013. The govt was in the process of finalising the funding agency, he said.
