Saving Rs 10 Per Broom, This Rajasthan Family Earns Rs 6 Lakh Annually in UP's Baghpat
The family's annual earnings, averaging around Rs 6 lakh per annum, underscore their financial stability achieved through the broom-making trade.

Embodying the adage “man ke haare haar, man ke jeete jeet” (one who loses heart, loses all; one who wins heart, wins all), a family from Rajasthan found success in Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat through the craft of broom-making. What started as a means to combat unemployment has now become a thriving enterprise for Geru and his family of twenty members. The family’s annual earnings, averaging around Rs 6 lakh per annum, underscore their financial stability achieved through the broom-making trade.

Geru, a native of Rajasthan, recounted their journey of perseverance and prosperity. Two years ago, faced with limited job opportunities, they ventured to Khekra town in Baghpat and began crafting brooms, he said. With initial support from local authorities, their small business flourished, enabling all 20 family members to contribute to and benefit from the enterprise.

The Process

Geru explained the process, saying they start with gathering date palm branches from nearby forests and shaping them into brooms, applying rubber for durability. Each broom saves them Rs 10 in production costs, as they handle the entire process from creation to marketing.

Their business model includes direct sales to local markets and villages, allowing them to maximise profits on brooms priced between Rs 10 to Rs 30. This approach not only ensures financial viability but also sustains their livelihoods with each family member actively involved in different aspects of production and sales.

Geru proudly concluded that the venture not only brought financial security but also happiness to their family. We are grateful for the opportunity to thrive in Baghpat, he said.

The success story of Geru and his family serves as a testament to the transformative power of entrepreneurial spirit and local support in fostering sustainable livelihoods.
