School Athletic Championships begin!

KOCHI: The Maharaja’s College Stadium came alive with the future of Kerala athletics affording a glimpse of their talents as the curtains went up on the 55th Kerala State Athletics Championship here on Thursday.Palakkad notched up 34 points on the opening day to send out a warning to hosts and defending champions Ernakulam, who were in the second spot with 18 points.With yesteryear stars like P T Usha, Mercy Kuttan, Bobby Aloysius, and coaches who polished many a rough talent into quality athletes, like K P Thomas and T P Ouseph watching from the stands, Palakkad were quick out of the blocks picking up the first two gold medals on offer.
