Tamil Nadu IPS officer Archana Ramasundaram has been shunted out of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to be appointed as the Director General of the National Crime Records Bureau.
Ramasundaram's tenure as the Additional Director of the CBI has been curtailed by the Cabinet Appointments committee.
Appointed to the CBI in 2014, Ramasundaram had not been assigned any work, as a plea was being heard by the Supreme Court over her appointment.
The IPS officer was controversially appointed by the previous UPA government without the recommendation of the CVC Committee
The ACC approved the appointment of Ramasundaram, a 1980 batch IPS officer, as Director, NCRB by temporarily upgrading the post, to the level of Director General, for a period of two years with effect from the date of her assumption of charge of the post or till September 30, 2017, i.e. the date of her superannuation.
Her appointment is subject to the outcome of the writ petition pending in Supreme Court and the court may be apprised accordingly by filing appropriate affidavit before it, the order said.
