SI injured while on patrol duty

CHENNAI: A sub-inspector, who was on patrol duty, sustained serious injuries when he was hit by a van at Velachery on Saturday.Around midnight, SI Jayaraman, attached to the law and order wing of  the Guindy police, was engaged in patrolling at the checkpost in Velachery. Since the jeep tyre developed a puncture, the driver parked the vehicle on the roadside and was fixing the spare one. Jayaraman was signalling to other vehicles about the parked jeep, when he was hit by a speeding van. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a private hospital. The Adyar traffic police later apprehended the van driver.
