Sivakasi's Printing Industry Powers Election Campaigns As Parties Rush For Flags And Badges
Sivakasi town, known for its firecracker industry, is now busy making flags, flagpoles and badges required by the election parties.

The upcoming Lok Sabha election in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 19 during the first phase to elect the 39 members across different constituencies in the state. With almost two weeks left for the polling, the political parties have started preparing for the election through campaigns, public meetings and social media. To aware citizens of their existence at the general election, each political party markets their election symbol. The posters and flags help further in that purpose. The rigorous printing of these has already started in the Sivakasi city of Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu.

Sivakasi town, known for its firecracker industry, is now busy making flags, flagpoles and badges required by the election parties. After the Diwali season, there is an increase in printing-related industries in the town. Vendors and companies have requested large print orders of notebooks, wedding magazines and calendars. As the elections are coming up, they are making paper-printed Toran flags, portrait posters, badges etc. Apart from posters and badges, they also print party election symbols on the T-shirts.

While talking about the increased orders of printing during the elections, Kasirajan, the owner of Veera Nagammal Arts Press, Sivakasi, said that the season is getting a bit hot now. “As far as Sivakasi is concerned, all these are being made using paper and cloth without using plastic,” Kasirajan added. Not only the state parties in Tamil Nadu but also the election flags for the parties in the neighbouring states like Kerala and Karnataka are also sent from Sivakasi.

Sivakasi City is also one of the frontrunners in creating election awareness among the youth. To ensure the same, a Photo Point has been set up in Virudhunagar district to emphasise 100 per cent voter turnout in Lok Sabha General Election 2024.

The Collector and District Electoral Officer of Virudhunugar district VP Jayaseelan also interacted with the first-time voters and youngsters to discuss about the importance of casting votes.
