After reviewing drought relief works here, Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa on Tuesday said that the onus of paying compensation to farmers is on the Centre not the state government.

He said the state government is not responsible to pay even a single paise to farmers for crop loss and insurance.

It is the duty of the Union government, the deputy CM said and added, but the Centre seems to be least bothered about it.

He told reporters at the District Collector’s office here, that the Union government had released Rs 700 crore as against the demand of Rs 11,200 crore for drought relief works.

Instead at least Rs 2,000 crore should have been released, he said.

Stating that they need more time to send ‘utilisation certificate’ for Rs 700 crore, the deputy Chief Minister said that they are contemplating to send an allparty delegation once again to New Delhi for requesting the Centre to release aid.
