HYDERABAD: Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has described the Sakala Janula Samme as one that was causing untold suffering to people in Telangana region itself and wanted the strike called off.Addressing a gathering of people at his camp office on Saturday morning, who were mobilised from Medak district to 'thank him for the Rs 1 a kg rice scheme,' Kiran Kuma Reddy said that the strike was affecting all sections. "The poor, the farmer, the one who is in dire need of medical attention, small time merchants, students and employees- all of them are being affected. I want the organisations that are leading the strike to withdraw their agitation in the interest of people of their own region," he said.Referring to TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao's letter to him to ensure supply of groundnut seed to Mahaboobnagar district, the chief minister said: "About a fortnight ago 80 quintals of seed was sent to the district. As employees were on strike, the seeds could not be delivered to farmers. In Telangana region, as many as 80 lakh people travel by RTC buses. Now there is no mode of transport. Imagine their plight," he said. The chief minister reiterated the fact that Telangana issue was in the hands of the Centre and that there was little that he could do about it. "The Centre has said that it would take a decision in two to three months. We have to wait till the decision comes. Instead we are making people suffer," he said.He disapproved of the methods of agitation. The organisations that are sponsoring the agitation had coal miners come out of mines and as a result coal production stopped in Singareni Collieries now. "I sought additional allocation of gas for improving power supply but T leaders approached Union petroleum minister S Jaipal Reddy and requested him not to make the allotment. If I want to get coal from other states to run the thermal power stations, there is rail roko. In spite of many difficulties, we are still trying to help people by addressing their immediate needs," he said adding he had directed the officials to purchase gas even if it costs `6 per unit. He wanted the TJAC to understand the agony of the 30 to 40 lakh daily wage labourers who are being denied livelihood because of the stir.
