Sushmita Sen had been miffed with the co-star of her new film Chingari for portraying the film as a sleaze-pic.

Mumbai: Letting bygones be bygones, actress Sushmita Sen has finally agreed to promote her new film, Chingari.

For the past few months, Sushmita has been miffed with the film's director Kalpana Lajmi and the leading man Anuj Sawhney for going to press about an on-screen smooch she shares with him.

Sushmita was upset that her co-star chose to derive publicity from what she considered an insignificant scene in a sensitive film.

Sushmita refuses to be portrayed as a sex object but has now buried the hatchet and cleared the air.

"I didn't take it lightly. I would not have been marketing this film if things were not under control," Sushmita said

"If you are marketing it as a sleazy sex film then you don't need me to market it. I don't want to be part of it. So, there is nothing sensational except that Sushmita Sen is in it," Sushmita added.

Chingari is tipped to be a strong drama about a prostitute who is abused by a priest, but is eventually rescued by a humble postman.

While Sushmita plays the role of the prostitute and Anuj Sawhney plays the postman, Lajmi roped in Mithun Chakraborty to play the role of the priest.

At an event to promote the film in Mumbai on Saturday, Sawhney came in early to talk about his experience of working in the film, and made sure he was done well before Sushmita arrived to do her bit of plugging.

Although Sawhney regrets that the incident ever took place, he doesn't take full responsibility for the controversy he stirred.

"A certain section of the media creates news that is saleable and they misinterpret what you say," Sawhney said.

"Sometimes you cross that moral line which affects two people who are close to each other, and it really hurts, because the person in question is someone I really care for - Sushmita. And I really miss her as buddy and wish it had never happened," Sawhney added.

Scheduled for release in February, the makers of Chingari are now waiting for a no objection certificate from the Animal Welfare Board of India before they can finalise a release date as the film has been shot extensively with animals.
