VISAKHAPATNAM: Is swine flu spreading in the port city? One more positive swine flu case was registered here on Sunday. A 23-year-old pregnant woman and resident of Gajuwaka area had been battling flu symptoms for the past few days. Her condition is said to be critical.A few days back the first swine flu case was registered in the city after a gap of one year. A 30-year-old man and resident of Marripalem in the city was admitted to a private hospital with fever and respiratory problems, where medical officers confirmed that he was battling swine flu. Meanwhile, two other persons were admitted at the hospital suspecting swine flu. However, health officials said only the pregnant woman had swine flu, while the two others had normal fever.The H1N1 virus has suddenly turned active in last week of March and was spreading in April, probably due to climate change, doctors said. It certainly seems that the H1N1 virus will spread fast in April opined, district nodal officer overseeing the swine flu phenomenon, LBSH Devi.Sources said that the patient was admitted in a private hospital few days ago and the doctors had suspected the symptoms were of H1N1. They sent pathology samples to Ranbaxy lab in Mumbai and informed the district medical authorities following confirmation of the report.Devi said they have started surveillance activity within the five km radius of the patient’s residence and found that she hasn’t travelled anywhere for the past few months, but was ailing with some other heart-related diseases.The first swine flu case was reported in Visakhapatnam in 2009. In 2009, a total of 29 swine flu cases were registered in the district and five persons died of swine flu, while undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the city limits.
