COIMBATORE: A complaint was lodged against a school teacher here for allegedly slapping a student.Police said, R Gokula Krishnan, a Class X student of a school at Ukkadam, was slapped by his teacher, Edwin. According to Inspector P Thirumeni, “The boy was not regular to class and often picked up fights with other students. To warn him, the teacher slapped him on the school premises. However, doctors said the boy did not suffer any major injuries.”On Wednesday, the boy’s father Ravikumar, a human rights activist, filed a complaint against the teacher with the Ukkadam police. The police, who recorded the complaint, are waiting for the judicial magistrate’s opinion in the matter, before registering an FIR.HM Suspended for Stripping Students An elementary school headmaster in Pernambut union near Gudiyattam was suspended on Thursday, on complaints of stripping off students, to identify body marks. On Wednesday, school assistant teacher Latha had submitted a list with details, including names of students and the identification marks in their body, to the headmaster. Sources said headmaster Mani (57) again checked the marks on the students by stripping them.Parents questioned his action on Thursday and Mani was suspended with immediate effect, District Elementary Education Officer Malliga said.Boy Dies in AccidentA seven-year-old boy was killed while his parents and brother were injured, after a lorry rammed the two-wheeler they were riding on, in Salem on Thursday.Sources said Palani (31) of Mela Street in Pannapatti, was headed to his father-in-law’s house at Venandur on his two-wheeler when the accident occurred. His wife Poonkodi (26), sons Siva (10) and Jayamurugan (7) were riding pillion.While nearing Mamangam, a lorry rammed Palani’s motorcycle from behind. Jayamurugan died while being taken to the Salem GH. Others are being treated for injuries.
