HYDERABAD: As expected, Telangana Congress’s leaders mission to Delhi could not get them what they wanted: a promise of a clear announcement in favour of creation of Telangana state. They met defence minister and Core Committee member AK Antony who only told them that he would convey their concern over the delay in announcement on Telangana to party president Sonia Gandhi. After the meeting, Nizamabad MP Madhu Yashki said: “We had met prime minister Manmohan Singh and ministers Pranab Mukherjee and P Chidambaram in the recent past for a categorical announcement on Telangana.’’ Of them, Chidambaram dismissed them within 15 minutes of hearing their representation while Mukherjee made up for what the home minister did not do. He spent over one hour with them and gave them a patient hearing. In all these sessions, the Congress leaders who included MPs, ministers and MLAs, in their representation to Antony wanted to know what they should tell their constituents after returning to Hyderabad. “We wanted to know what the Congress’ stand on bifurcation issue is and what we should tell the people of Telangana. He said he would convey our views to the party president,” Madhu Yashki said.“We told Antony that people in Telagnana region are hopeful that the Congress would initiate the process for formation of state. After listening to us, he said he would place the subject before the core committee for discussion,” Manda Jagannadham, MP, said.
