Hyderabad: The Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirumala was closed at 11 am on Wednesday due to total Lunar eclipse. The lunar eclipse is scheduled to occur between 5.18pm to 8.41pm. As per the tradition, the doors close 6 hours prior to the eclipse.
The temple doors will reopen after the eclipse at 9:30pm. After the completion of "shuddhi" and other sanctifying rituals the devotees will be allowed for darshan.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has cancelled Kalyanotsavam, Unjal Seva, Arjita Brahmotsavam, Vasantotsavam, Sahasra Deepalankara Seva and monthly Pournami Garuda Seva scheduled for January 31, following lunar eclipse.
During this time, the Annadanam complex will also remain shut, which provides free food to devotees every day. According to a TTD statement, "All the canteens and Nitya Annaprasadam service at employees canteen at TTD Admin Building, Sri Padmavathi Rest house, Srinivasam and Vishnu Nivasams will be closed for the day. The supply of food and other services at Government hospitals and primary health centres will also be closed".
Owing to total lunar eclipse on January 31, all the local temples in the two Telugu states will also remain closed for almost 12 hours.
