PUDUCHERRY: Two companies of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) would be deployed for duty during polling for by-poll in Indira Nagar constituency on Oct 13, said District Election Officer SB Deepak Kumar and SSP (Law and order) VJ Chandran. They were speaking at a press conference on Tuesday. Six booths have been identified as sensitive and five areas as vulnerable. Half of the Central para-millitary force would be deployed in all the six vulnerable booths.Static pickets would also be posted at five sensitive points in the constituency as area domination. Two teams of bomb detection squad would be pressed into service on Wednesday and Thursday to conduct anti-sabotage check of all polling booths including vehicles allotted for transportation of polling materials and EVMs. The police have detained 145 persons under sections 107,109, 110 and 151 CrPC.Deepak Kumar said that electors photo identity card (EPIC) or booth slip issued by the election authority was mandatory for casting vote. So far 25,973 voters out of a total of 29,000 had been issued booth slips. Others could collect the booth slips from block level officers.The police deployment would be in the form of one regional officer in the rank of Superintendent of Police, one zonal officer in the rank of inspector and three sector officers in the rank of sub inspector, two mobile patrolling parties in each police station, striking reserves to all senior officers, five border check posts, six flying squads and deployment of men in 28 polling booths. The overall strength of these arrangements will be 55 officers, 445 men (both local police and IRBn), 27 home guards and two companies of CISF. The officers and men on duty have been randomised through NIC.All the five interstate borders would be sealed and effectively manned from October 11 to 13 in order to prevent anti- social elements from entering Puducherry with intent to disrupt the poll process as well as check transportation of illicit liquor arms or unaccounted cash.
