THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The errors in the higher secondary examination results following correction of the results have exposed the system of increasing the pass percentage artificially by awarding undeclared moderation.Following the decision to consider the marks of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics papers for the engineering admissions along with the entrance examination marks, these papers were subjected to double valuation. However, double valuation of the answer sheets had resulted in mass failure of students in these subjects. Following this, it was decided to give upto nine marks moderation.Sources said that the errors in the system were because of the problems which occurred in the software following the awarding of moderation. Another issue was with regard to the awarding of grace marks. The grace marks awarded was in variance to the eligible score for students with Biology combinations. The results of those 2165 students who had problems in grace marks were later corrected. In addition, the results of those students which were withheld due to technical reasons were also published on May 30. The corrected results of those students who were awarded eligible grace marks were also published. If the corrected results in both the categories are considered, the total number of results which was corrected came to 6388.Government School Teachers' Union president J Sasi said the issue has brought to light the lack of a proper system in the higher secondary directorate for examination.
