HYDERABAD: To avoid accidents at unmanned level crossings, the South Central Railway has drawn up an action plan to eliminate all ULCs by 2015.Unfurling the tricolour on the 65th Independence Day at the railway sports complex in Secunderabad on Monday, SCR additional general manager R Vijaya Mohan said as many as 198 ULCs have been removed during the last financial year and another 235 will be removed during this year.To enhance passenger security, 261 RPF personnel have been deployed for escorting 83 trains in vulnerable sections in addition to strengthening their presence at stations and vital installations. An Integrated Security System is being established at three high passenger density stations- Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Tirupati. Analysing SCR's performance during the current financial year, Vijaya Mohan stated the zone has made rapid strides both in passenger and freight segments.During April-July 2011, SCR earned Rs 2,556 crore which is higher by Rs 220 crore over the corresponding period of last year. The originating freight loading during this period was 33.24 million tonnes, showing an impressive 11.7 percent growth. SCR carried 126.54 million passengers during the same period, with 6.5 percent growth, according to the AGM. During April-July 2011, the zone achieved 94 percent punctuality in running of trains. SCR has spent `107 crore on passenger amenities and another Rs 47 crore spent during this year. To take care senior citizens, sickly and differently-abled passengers, SCR will provide 30 lifts and 26 escalators at major stations. During this year, SCR has targeted to complete 123 km of new lines, 25 km of doubling and constructing 127 RoBs/RuBs. Electrification will be completed on Secunderabad-Wadi and Renigunta-Guntakal sections.
