Lucknow: A case has been filed against Nestle India in a local court at Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district over safety standards of Maggi. The case has been filed by the UP Food Safety and Drug Administration after it found excessive monosodium glutamate and 17 times the permissible Lead in Maggi samples tested by it.
Meanwhile, actors Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Preity Zinta have also been separately dragged to court by a lawyer for promoting the brand.
Madhuri met officials of Nestle and they assured her that there would be no compromise on the quality.
Amitabh Bachchan, who endorsed Maggi a few years ago, said, "Everytime something that is humanly consumable, I try to have a look at it, because there are always up for a controversy. If you're in some celebrity position then you're bound to get attacked and drawn into it. I did check with Nestle who make the product, whether this was alright, they ensured this was absolutely fine. But if there is a legal issue or affirmation of the content and if there are authorities of the government that have confirmed that, then you need to look at it differently and stop. "
Defending celebrities' association with Maggi, Bachchan said," Why does maggi hire Madhuri, because they feel that with her celebrity status and presence the product will sell better. So you're actually utilising a celebrity to market your product. If you're her and asking her to say things, which are complimentary to the product and which people using it find different to what shes saying, then a sense she becomes liable, I become liable, every celebrity becomes liable."
