Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, actors Konidela Chiranjeevi, Mithun Chakraborty and singer Usha Uthup were among 132 people conferred with Padma awards, the government announced on Republic Day’s eye.

DMDK leader and actor Vijayakanth, who passed away in December last year, was conferred with Padma Bhushan.

For the year 2024, the President has approved conferment of 132 Padma Awards including 2 duo cases (in a duo case, the Award is counted as one) as per list below.

The list comprises 5 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 110 Padma Shri Awards. 30 of the awardees are women and the list also includes 8 persons from the category of Foreigners / NRI / PIO / OCI and 9 Posthumous awardees.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated to the change makers of our society who have been selected for the Padma Awards for their distinguished contributions to different fields.

PM Narendra Modi has rationalized the Padma Awards ceremony to make it a platform to appreciate individuals setting pioneering examples for social change, he said.

Shah further said that the individuals conferred with the Padma Awards have not only created brilliant examples for others to follow but also have elevated the pride of the nation with their service.

Padma Awards

Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The Awards are given in various disciplines / fields of activities, viz.- art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc.

‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.
