PUDUCHERRY: After months of agony, the 149 students of Venkateswara Medical College whose results were withheld by the Pondicherry University as the batch  was not granted approval by Medical Council of India, finally heaved a sigh of relief following orders of Madras High Court last week.“The Pondicherry University announced that 130 students had passed, out of which six have got distinctions in anatomy, bagging the first six positions in the university, while two got distinctions in physiology and one in biochemistry,” said the principal of the college Dr M Chioudhury.  The university has been directed to give affiliation for the batch in the next two weeks. With the HC allowing the petition of the petitioner, the MCI would also have to reconsider its earlier decision and give approval. The MCI had declined approval citing shortage of faculty as two of the faculty members were found serving in two other colleges. The students had been attending second year classes.
