CHENNAI: Water stagnation made voting difficult for the differently-abled in parts of North Chennai on Monday. They found access to polling stations difficult owing to water that stagnated in front of the booths after light showers in the morning.A number of them found it hard to wade through the pool of water in front of several schools that were functioning as polling stations. At the Chennai Middle School in Vyasarpadi, police officers were seen helping an orthopaedically-challenged woman by carrying her inside the polling station. At a school in Washermenpet, the public helped policemen get rid of the stagnating water by pouring sand. The differently-abled said many of the stations did not have ramps installed. Ashokan, a Mint resident, said that apart from installing ramps compulsorily, it would be comfortable if each booth had a wheel chair.
