New Delhi: The quota protests have been going on for over two weeks now but how are they able to sustain it? And where are the funds coming from?
The central lawns of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences is full of students from various universities of the country including, National Law University, Jodhpur, Government Medical College, Surat and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Ajmer.
Though the atmosphere is often relaxed with students playing games, reading books or simply sketching, the extended protests seen carefully planned.
"We have several committees set up for this task. There is the co-ordination committee, finance committee and the mass mobilisation committee," AIIMS, coordination committee member, Dr Subrata Mandal said.
The private sector is also supporting the agitating medicos and has offered help like providing the students with fans, coolers and mineral water.
"We have over 50 corporate houses funding us and then there are the private hospitals also like Batra Hospital, Fortis and Apollo," Mandal said.
Help has come in all forms for these students from innumerable supporters. "Some traders are providing us with water while other supply us with t-shirts. The print media is supplying banners and posters free of cost for us," Mandal added.
What started as a spontaneous student movement against reservation doesn’t seem to be spontaneous any more — it’s more organised and well planned.
Thus, it seems the doctors have also understood the politics of the reservation row.
