The name of the place is the Roman Catholic Diocese of Neyyattinkara. The majority of the population of Neyyattinkara Roman Catholic Diocese belongs to the major ethnic group named Nadar Community. The Holy Throne, which was established in the year 1996, is a major place of progress and preservation of the Latin Catholic Minority in the state. The sacred place is located at an altitude of 300 feet above sea level on the peak of Neyyattinkara. Adding to it, this place is also listed in the prestigious list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The picturesque region shares its border with Tamil Nadu. Every year thousands of pilgrims from different parts of the country belonging to various castes and religions visit this place. As per reports, the pilgrimage was started by Belgian missionary Fr John Baptist after he placed a hilltop. The Diocese was reportedly established after the cross was placed by Fr John. The most significant pilgrimage to take place in this auspicious site is Holy Wednesday and Good Friday.
