Experimenting with genres from Heavy Metal to Blues to Classic Rock for over 10 years now, Barefaced Liar (BFL) has established a spot amongst the top bands of the country.And this Thursday, they suited up to perform a tribute to one of their major influences, The Beatles. “Beatles are a great influence.Their music is timeless and right from the heart. They were so vocally driven and their song-writing was amazing. Something every generation can relate to.Not just us, but for millions like us, they have been the best influences ever,” exclaimed Akshay Chowdry, lead vocalist and the guitarist of the band, as they played their tribute to the Beatles at the Hard Rock Cafe to Hyderabadi music lovers on Thrusday.Askshay then adds, “When we try and sing their songs, we make sure that we retain the authenticity of their music, as their songs are too legendary to mess with.  But on the other hand, we also make sure that we inculcate a bit of ourselves when we perform.We want it to be our own rendition of the compositions. ” To make their act more interesting, the band also worked on their attire and also their hairdo’s bringing in a Beatles feel to the gig.Popular numbers like Love Me Do, Come Together, Yesterday, Strawberry Fields Forever and Come Together were part of the line -up that enthralled the audience.  Having played in Hyderabad before, the vocalist of BFL shared that the audience is always welcoming. “We have played here before and love the way the audience responds to anything new. We always love coming back to this city. ” From Delhi to here, the band hoped to continue this tour further.BFL was formed in 2002 and is an amalgamation of different and eclectic musical taste of its members, that include Akshay Chowdhry (Vocals, Guitars), Sumant Balakrishnan (Guitars, Vocals), Abhimanyu Dutta (Keyboard) Rohit Bhattacharya (Bass) and Suyash Gabriel (Drummer).Apart from the Beatles, the band is also heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and Metallica, while leaning towards a more modern sound in the style of Tool and Stone Temple Pilots, among others.Their self-titled debut album which was released in November 2010, was recognised as one of the Top 10 albums of 2011 according to Rolling Stone Magazine and Rock Street Journal, and as one of the Top five Indian Rock albums by Indian Rock MP3. Their new technique of implementing blues-based modern rock riffs with sing-along choruses created all that noise for them.  The same year, MTV and Talent house hosted a nationwide contest and from over 850 entries, BFL was chosen as one of the top eight bands in the country.Their performance was documented on the nationally broadcasted show Taking Pole Position in October 2011. BFL also went international for the first time when they performed in Pattaya, Thailand.  Explaining more on their future plans, Akshay said, “We are currently working on our second album, which will be released before the year end.We have also been actively working at the studio and recording music, so that it is available for sale.Apart from live gigs, we are also focusing on studio experience.  Every city has a music-educated crowd and that somehow helps keep us on our toes. ” The band has currently released a single from their untitled upcoming album, Toe the Line, available on SoundCloud.first published:August 24, 2012, 10:07 ISTlast updated:August 24, 2012, 10:07 IST
