'Won't Save You If There Is Public Anger': TMC MP Warns Doctors Amid RG Kar Protests
TMC MP Arup Chakraborty warned doctors of potential public anger if they continue with their protests for long. He also threatened opposition parties criticizing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee

Amid protests by the medical fraternity across the country over the RG Kar rape case, TMC MP Arup Chakraborty warned doctors at Bankura that patients not receiving treatment owing to the continued protests may lead to public anger and he will not save the doctors if anything untoward takes place.

“People may be enraged if they do not get treatment,” the Trinamool MP was heard saying. He also threatened opposition parties saying that his party workers may “twist their hands” if they say anything ill of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

A protest was staged at Bankura on Sunday demanding justice for the victim in the RG Kar rape case. Bankura MP Arup Chakraborty and the district organizational president were present at the spot. They claimed that the agitation has been going on for the last 10 days, people are facing inconvenience and are forced to return after not receiving any treatment.

“Doctors should think about this. We support the demands of the doctors’ movement. However, if people do not get treatment, it may lead to public anger. I will not save you then,” he warned.

Chakraborty also took a veiled dig at the opposition BJP and the CPI(M).

“What are they saying? Mamata Banerjee should resign? Don’t try to tarnish the image of Mamata Banerjee. If you do so, TMC workers will twist your hand. Those who are trying to malign the leader of Bengal and the Trinamool Congress will not be spared,” the Bankura MP said.

Opposition parties in the state have demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the brutal murder and rape of a young doctor.

On Sunday, BJP state president and Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar said, “We want the resignation of the CM. I’m going to court tomorrow. Various cells of the party will sit on dharna from August 20 to August 23. We will also conduct an inspection at the Health department.”
