BELGAUM: The civil contractors whose services were used at the time of World Kannada Meet in March to give a facelift to Belgaum are yet to get their bills cleared by the government.
District president of Karnataka State Contractors Welfare Association SV Patil told Express that the bills to the tune of Rs 5 crore are pending with the government and not a single penny has been cleared. Patil said that at the time of the mega meet, the civil contractors of Belgaum were asked to do works assuring that the bills would be cleared immediately. The civil contractors responded to the plea of the government as the mega meet was being held in Belgaum, a border city, he said. The roads were asphalted and dividers were erected by the local contractors. The contractors also painted several government buildings making the city more beautiful. Patil said the government did not gave any advances for the works but had said that all the bills would be cleared as soon as the World Kannada Meet was over.
