THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as crores of rupees was going down the drain and various stake-holders remaining tied down, the deadlock in the Malayalam film industry took a turn for the worse on Saturday with the Youth Congress and DYFI coming out against the stance of the Kerala Film Exhibitors Federation that only other language films will be screened in cine houses until and unless various demands including moves for wide release of Malayalam movies are met. Youth Congress activists went on a rampage in the SL Theatre complex here where a Tamil film was being screened, while their counterparts gave vent to their ire in Kochi and a few other places also. The DYFI has made it clear that the Exhibitors Federation stand cannot be approved as it was an insult to Malayalam movies. For the past two weeks, the cine sector in the state has fallen into utter crisis but the government or the minister concerned has not risen to the occasion to solve it. It is not at all good that issues are turned complex when the fact remains that it could have been solved easily at the outset itself, said DYFI state secretary T V Rajesh MLA in a statement.
