Bengaluru: The HR manager of a private firm was arrested for allegedly abusing the delivery boy of a food ordering app when his order arrived late.
In his complaint to the police, Anil, who is employed with Swiggy, alleged that Sathvik Sachar called Kannadigas “lazy people” and made anti-Kannada statements when he was late in delivering the latter’s order by a few minutes on June 21.
Speaking to CNN-News18 on Saturday, Anil said, “The place of delivery was 2km from the restaurant. It was raining, but I delivered the food within seven minutes. As soon as I reached, he (Sachar) started abusing me. He called me a bastard and asked why I was late. I tried to explain, but he kept on abusing me. I started speaking in Kannada and he said ‘don’t use your dirty language’. I could not tolerate the abuse against Kannada and Kannadigas and filed a complaint.”
Sachar was arrested under sections 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 153A (promoting enmity). He was later released on bail.
Anil said Vatal Nagraj of the pro-Kannada group Kannada Chaluvali Paksha helped him file the complaint.
Speaking to CNN-News18, Nagraj said, “There is a growing trend in the state to look down on Kannadigas. It is prevalent, unfortunately, in capital city Bengaluru. I appreciate the efforts of Anil who came out and filed a complaint. All Kannada organisations should come together to counter the anti-Kannada sentiment growing in the state.”
Sathvik Sachar could not be contacted for comments.
