KANNUR: Youth Congress (YC) workers organised a protest demonstration here on Sunday shouting slogans against the District Superintendent of Police Anup Kuruvila John and expressing support to K Sudhakaran MP on the flex board issue that resulted in the suspension of six office-bearers of the Kerala Police Association.The protesting Youth Congress workers also burnt the effigy of the District Police Chief in front of his official residence.The protest march led by Youth Congress leaders Muhammed Blathur, M K Mohanan, Rijil Makutty and Faisal started from the District Congress Committee office on Sunday evening. The marching Youth Congress workers who reached the Old Bus Stand premises returned a few minutes later and gathered in front of the residence of Anup Kuruvila and burnt his effigy shouting slogans against him.The District Police Chief was out of station at the time of the protest demonstration.Anup Kuruvila had placed under suspension six office-bearers of the Police Association in connection with the putting up of a flex board near the Armed Police Camp here hailing K Sudhakaran for sanctioning `10 lakh from his development fund as MP for construction of a swimming pool at the KAP Camp, Mangattuparamba.The District Police Chief had directed the cops to remove the flex board before the Republic Day parade was about to be held. The cops removed the flex-board but replaced it later, prompting the former to keep the office-bearers of the Police Association under suspension.According to the information available from official sources here, Anup Kuruvila is planning to attend a training programme scheduled to be held in Hyderabad. Congress leaders here and the Police Association are making efforts to get the suspension orders of the policemen rescinded.
