The 10-day Mariamman temple festival was being held at Kannanur. As a part of the fest, a pooja was organised at the temple on Sunday. During the festivities, a group, including P Sudhakaran (28) from Kannanur, K Bharathiraja and his friends, quarrelled with another group comprising V Rajkumar and his brothers, V Vadivel and V Palanivel. But, the devotees pacified the two groups. Meanwhile, Rajkumar and his brothers, along with Murali, Rajesh and Gopi pursued the quarrel, which snowballed into a clash.
