Decoding The Mystery: Understanding The Unique Sleep Cycle Of Infants
A newborn baby suffers from extreme stomach pain and passes more gas at night.

All the newborn babies cry and do fussy behaviour many times. As per the Kids Health portal, it’s normal for a baby to cry for 2–3 hours a day for the first six weeks. Many of them sleep in the morning, stay awake at night, and also cry at night. According to Dr Avadhesh Ahuja, Senior Consultant, crying is normal. But, if the child is sobbing excessively at night, it could be due to stomach aches and gas.

A newborn baby suffers from extreme stomach pain and passes more gas at night. According to doctors, newborn babies also start crying if they get wet after urinating at night. In this case, their diapers should be checked several times at night and changed if necessary. Newborn babies also start crying when they are hungry. In this case, they should be fed milk at night. Infants should be exclusively breastfed for six months after birth. Dr Ahuja said that newborns have different sleep patterns as compared to adults. They wake up at night and sleep during the day. It is because, during pregnancy, when the mother walks during the day, the baby falls asleep comfortably with the gentle rhythms of the mother’s womb. The babies follow this pattern after their birth.

Post-breastfeeding, infants should be made to burp as well for 10 minutes. Parents should sleep with the infant at night so that the baby can have a better sleep. If a newborn baby cries, parents should not try to give him or her any medical treatment on their own. They should also not put oil in the ears or nose of the infant because it can increase the chances of infection. They should consult a doctor in this case. According to Dr Ahuja, to keep children healthy, special care should be taken regarding their hygiene. Before touching an infant, people should wash their hands to abstain from spreading any infection. If anyone in the house has a cold, cough, or fever, they should stay away from the baby or use a mask. Besides these things, newborn babies should not be made to sleep on their stomachs.
