An egg has several health beliefs associated with it, most claiming that it is unhealthy to consume it in high quantity. Many also think that consuming the yellow, runny yolk could be dangerous to health. An expert has debunked these myths, sharing its incredible benefits and how it can be included in your diet.

According to the website of Healthline, an egg and its yolk can be eaten to regulate the cholesterol in the body. Eating eggs increases the levels of HDL (high-density lipoprotein) in the body, a type of “good” cholesterol.

Dr Priyanka Sehrawat, in Neurology and Medicine from AIIMS Delhi shared an insightful video on Instagram, listing out the health benefits of a yolk and an egg as a whole. She started by saying that many people believe egg yolk contributes to cholesterol increase in the body and hence it is tossed away. She debunked the belief, saying that it is just a myth. According to her, egg white is very rich in nutrients like proteins, selenium and vitamin B12. while, a yolk consists of different types of minerals and vitamins, which are extremely beneficial for our body.

It contains fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin E, Vitamin K and omega 3. She further states that omega 3 is a type of fatty acid, which helps in boosting our immunity. She revealed, “Egg yolk is richer in protein as compared to fat content.” Giving more information in the caption, Dr Priyanka writes, “Eating whole egg provides a balanced amount of protein, vitamins and minerals.” Furthermore, the best time to consume an egg is breakfast, while eating one to two eggs daily is considered to be a very healthy option.

The Healthline website states that an egg contains Choline, a nutrient many are not even aware of. As per the information given, it is needed in the formation of the cell membrane and also helps in the production of signalling molecules in the brain. One egg contains around 100 grams of this nutrient.
