Bhai Dooj, the festival that marks the lovely bond between siblings, is being celebrated with enthusiasm across the country today, on November 6. The festival is is celebrated two days after Diwali. It is also called Bhau Bheej and Bhai Phota. There are multiple stories related to this day with two of the prominent ones being about Lord Krishna and his sister Subhadra, and Lord Yamraj and his sister Yamuna. The festival is much similar to the Raksha Bandhan and is celebrated to cherish the bond of brothers and sisters. The ritual begins with the sisters performing the Tika ceremony by putting ‘tilak’ on the brother’s forehead and praying for his long and happy lives.
