Navratri, one of the significant Hindu festivals, is dedicated to the worship of the nine forms of Goddess Durga. According to the tantric text Mahakala Samhita, the Hindu calendar acknowledges four Navratris: Sharad Navratri, Chaitra Navratri, Magha Gupta Navratri and Ashadha Gupta Navratri. Pandit Bhola Shastri, a scholar from Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, shared insights about the upcoming Magha Gupta Navratri, scheduled to commence on February 10 and conclude on February 18.
During Magha Gupta Navratri, devotees engage in the worship of the 10 Mahavidyas, manifestations of Goddess Parvati, as mentioned by Bhola Shastri. These Mahavidyas include Kali, Tara, Shodashi or Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshvari, Bhairavi, Chinnamasta, Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi, Matangi and Kamala. The festival involves secret tantra-mantra and yantra meditations, with special rituals taking place at the Shree Harsiddhi Mata Shaktipeeth Mandir in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The temple will be adorned with Deepmala, creating a vibrant ambience.
Worshipping the Goddesses at Shree Harsiddhi Mata Shaktipeeth Temple is believed to bring success in life and several other temples in Madhya Pradesh also attract devotees during this period. Notable among them are Jai Maa Gadhkalika Mata Mandir, Ekattarso Mahadev Mandir, Bhukhi Mata Mandir, and Nagarkot Ki Rani Mandir. Chamunda Mata Mandir and Maa Baglamukhi Mandir Nalkheda are equally significant for Devi Sadhana, drawing devotees seeking the blessings of the Goddesses.
While Magha Gupta Navratri is less known in many regions, it holds prominence in North Indian states such as Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
According to Rudraksha Ratna, Magha Gupta Navratri is considered auspicious for initiating new goals or projects. The period is characterised by cosmic clarity, with all planets moving forward in their orbits, contributing to its special significance in Hindu astrology.
