Subway has come out swinging against a Canadian investigative report that called into question the quality of its chicken, calling the results "false and misleading."

An investigative report by CBC Marketplace has been making headlines recently, after test results showed that the chicken used in Subway sandwiches contain half chicken DNA, half soy DNA.

The results were part of a larger study conducted at a DNA laboratory that tested chicken sandwiches at some of the biggest fast food chains in the country, including McDonald's, Wendy's, A&W and Tim Hortons.

To respond to the allegations, Subway commissioned their own studies at two, independent laboratories -- one in Canada, the other in the US -- which revealed contradictory results.

Subway says that both labs found soy protein below 10 ppm or less than one percent in all samples.

"The stunningly flawed test by Marketplace is a tremendous disservice to our customers. The safety, quality and integrity of our food is the foundation of our business," said Subway president and CEO Suzanne Greco in a statement.

"That's why we took extra caution to test and retest the chicken. Our customers can have confidence in our food. The allegation that our chicken is only 50 percent chicken is 100 per cent wrong."

For their part, the investigative team and the testing lab at Trent University behind the report are defending their results saying: "Marketplace stands by its report and is releasing the Subway test results as well as additional detail about the methodology and investigation."

The full report is now available online at http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/subway-defends-its-chicken-after-cbc-marketplace-report-1.4005268.

Subway says they have also shared the results of their tests with Marketplace and the Trent University lab.
