The Importance of a Balanced Diet

  1. Fruits and VegetablesThey contain vitamin C which strengthens the body’s defenses against infections. Along with Potassium which is good for the heart and fibre helping in digestion, and preventing diseases.
  2. Whole GrainsThey contain a very good source of energy and vitamin B-known to be active regulators in processes of metabolism and neurology. They maintain the level of energy and support cognitive development.
  3. ProteinsThese are very crucial for growth, development, and repair within tissues. Common protein foods include meat, beans, and nuts. Applications of proteins are seen in building and repairing body tissues, therefore aiding in overall growth.
  4. Milk and Dairy Products

The intake of calcium and vitamin D is important for health and bone development. Calcium aids in strengthening bones, while vitamin D enhances the absorption of calcium.

Nutritional Needs at Different Stages

  1. Infants (6 months – 1year): They need a lot of iron for the development of their brain and body. Therefore, Iron-rich foods are needed to avoid deficiencies, allowing the child to have healthy growth.
  2. Young Children (1-3 years): During the transition to solid food, a wide range of nutrients becomes crucial for a child to avoid deficiency and help in growth. Offering a variety helps them get different kinds of nutritional requirements that are continuously changing.
