People tend to typecast me as a good girl: Tannishtha Chatterjee

Mumbai: Actress Tannishtha Chatterjee, best known for her roles in films like ‘Anna Karenina’, ‘Dekh Indian Circus’, ‘Angry Indian Goddesses’ and ‘Parched’, feels people often typecast her as an actress who can only portray positive roles.

Tannishtha can be seen playing the negative role of Alisha David in the finale episode of Culture Machine's web series ‘Alisha’.

“I have never done something like this before - it is a role with a negative shade. People tend to typecast me and picture me in the role of a sweet, good girl so that was the prime reason why I chose to take up this project,” Tannishtha said in a statement.

“This is the first time I acted in a web series. I have never worked in one before and I thought ‘Alisha’ would be a great way to make a debut on the digital platform,” she added.

For the National Award winning actress, "Alisha" turned out to be a unique experience.

“My role in 'Alisha' is not an all-out negative character - the role I am essaying does have a negative intellect, so playing her became a very unique experience as her character isn’t something we come across frequently. But yes, I thoroughly enjoyed portraying the character.

“I always choose projects keeping in mind the entire package, the role, overall script, who is offering it, the treatment of the role and project, so I cannot say that I am actively looking out for negative characters to play. Over a period of time, I would love to essay versatile characters versus something monotonous,” she said.
